Jennifer Lawrence is an artist living on the south coast of NSW. Her work explores the idea of home, community, and belonging.

Her work typically includes an interrupted line – either vertical or horizontal – representing journeys of all types and their inherent yearning, discovery, and exploration.

The lines, marks, colours, and textures within her work are largely informed by the southern NSW coastline and photographs from her travels.

I am a painter with a bit of a textile obsession. I express myself through silk marking, stitching, paint, charcoal, paper, and linen. I’ve developed these methods over more than 10 years of experimentation and exploration. Creativing with these methods and materials leads me down a path of creativity and expression in which I often lose all sense of time and space.

I am also an amateur historian with a keen interest in literature and anthropology. If there are no paintbrushes or needles and thread nearby, there is always a book in my hand.

I love taking pictures.

If I particularly like a photo I have taken. I will print it onto a transparency and monoprint with a Baren onto rice paper.

I am happiest by the sea; roaming.

I also love being with friends and sharing my wonderful piece of the world with my family.

  • There is no abstract art. You must always start with something. Afterward you can remove all traces of reality.

  • If you could say it in words, there would be no reason to paint.

  • For whatever we lose (like a you or a me), it's always our self we find in the sea.
